LIFE AS A CAREGIVER AND A NANA RAISING TWO GRANDDAUGHTERS

LIFE AS A CAREGIVER AND A NANA RAISING TWO GRANDDAUGHTERS

Are you struggling to find time for self-care? Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Life itself can be very stressful if we let it and bring a full time caregiver and a full time Nana can make things even more stressful. I do both and have been for the past 11 years but before that a was a single mom. So, from the time I was 21 with my first child. I’ve been a cargiver for someone. I really enjoy my life and doing for others but there are times I forget, I need care too. There are times. I get resentful and angry because I feel that life is passing me bye because I dot get to do the things other moms or people my age get to do. I’ll be 62 in a few short days and right now I’m feeling stuck. If you’ve ever been a full time caregiver or you are now then you’ve probably had these same feelings. Maybe you feel that there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything accomplished and you begin to feel like you’ve failed in some way. You’re not alone. I am right there with you. We need to refocus and put first things first. You’re not a failure! We just need to learn to take care of ourselves too. But how? Well, it took me a long time to realize… it is possible! Life is a journey and we must find our path. However, we won’t find our path if we aren’t taking care of ourselves the same way we do other’s. We will begin to feel left out, become resentful, angry and even want to just give up. Maybe you already feel some of these things or maybe you’re just wondering… How do I get unstuck? I’ve found a few things that I’ve implemented in my day that may help. Are you ready to start your journey? Be more focused? And become the person you were meant to be? HERE are a few things to get you started on your path to be more of what you were meant to be.

1. STOP hitting the snooze button and just sit up on the side of your bed.

2. SAY out loud… Good morning world. Today is a beautiful day.

3. DO some stretches right there sitting on your bed.

4. GET UP and move a bit. Marching gets the blood flowing.

5. GRAB your favorite drink.

6. GET dressed, wash your face, brush your hair and teeth.

7. HEAD to your favorite morning place.

8. BE STILL and say… I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you. (Repeat over and over)

This may seem a little silly at first but over time it will become a pattern and you’ve taken the first steps in taking care of you. You’ll begin t feel a little less stressed and find your day will flow more easily. Let me know how this has helped you and share your tips with me. I’d love to hear your success.
