WHY TO USE LAVENDER OIL TO TAME YOUR KIDS!

There are those harrowing nights when your well-meaning attempts at lulling your little one into a deep sleep somehow transforms the bedroom into a battlefield. Toys may be thrown, tears are shed, and the once comforting stuffed bunny has suddenly become their greatest adversary. So before you start to break down along with them, don’t give up hope and instead try using lavender oil to soothe your distressed (and clearly exhausted) babe into a peaceful night’s sleep.

Using a pure form of lavender essential oil can help tame even the most unruly of toddlers and create a fun and relaxing ritual before bedtime that both of you can enjoy. Before you get started, here’s a few things you need to know:

  • Lavender is the most widely-known and commonly-used essential oil and has proven psychological benefits, like that of reducing stress and anxiety. According to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy it can help heal wounds, burns, bites, irritation, or itchiness. So, a little lavender on your youngster can go a long way.

  • Just because they are natural doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be careful. Many professionals caution that different oils have different strengths and affect people based on their body chemistry which everyone’s bodies reacts differently.. Be sure to properly dilute them in a vegetable carrier oil like jojoba, coconut, or grape seed oil. Never use undiluted oils directly on the skin. Make sure you research which company you use as many make their oils with unsafe fillers.

Once you are properly prepared, there are plenty of different ways to use and apply lavender oil. Some of my favorites include:

  • Blending it with your carrier oil of your choice and giving them a gentle massage on the bottoms of their feet as they fall asleep.

  • Add two drops of lavender oil to your little one’s nightly bath (also a great way to soothe any irritated skin) to help them wind down.

  • Mix a few drops of lavender oil with 1 cup of warm water in a spray bottle and generously spritz their pillow, sheets, and pajamas for a calming effect.

  • Use an essential oil diffuser with lavender while they sleep. It can help to gently relax them as the nod off, while adding some much needed moisture into the air during the cold and dry winter months.
